SHUFFLE THE DECK were formed in 1995 and are based at Harbertonford near Totnes in Devon. where we practise in the village hall (click here for map) on Wednesday evenings. At that time. we were given guidance and instruction with regard to the stepping by Roughshod (now disbanded) from Stroud in Gloucestershire, who were one of the leading exponents of Appalachian dancing in this country, having been taught themselves by members of the Fiddle Puppets and the Green Grass Cloggers from America.

Wearing hard-soled shoes with taps, we provide a vibrant percussive accompaniment to authentic American Old Time music played on banjo. fiddle and guitar. We can provide amplification, if necessary, and our own portable dance floor for indoor or outdoor displays.

Together with our band, the Coffin Dodgers, we can offer a varied and lively performance of music and dance for all occasions. Whilst we use the catalogued Appalachian steps. we like to think that our choreography reflects our own individual feeling for the dancing, our repertoire now consisting of 12 dances and still growing.

As well as displays, we can provide teaching workshops and we will always welcome new dancers or anyone wishing to learn at our beginners' sessions held in the Autumn.
