Totnes ~ Fore Street
 |
Totnes (2½ miles) and Dartmouth (10 miles) are very special places, with
amazing old buildings, lovely individual shops, and lots of tempting
tea-rooms serving the obligatory cream tea! Each has a castle, with
panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the River Dart, wending
its way to the sea. The boat trip between the two towns offers magical
scenery and lively and informative commentaries. Combine it with an outing
on the Dart Valley Steam Railway! Further along the coast is Salcombe, the
harbour bursting with boats and the little streets full of places to eat.
Indeed, the whole area is full of interesting old pubs offering excellent
food. The 13th century
Church House Inn
in Harberton is one of them, and just a short walk away.
You will find that Exeter with its
magnificent cathedral and Plymouth Barbican and the Hoe are within very easy
driving distance, as are many of the National Trust's treasures, Saltram,
Buckland Abbey, Cotehele and Coleton Fishacre to name but a few.
